#travel #blog BattleMum

Ah, a nice continuing run on the #travel1k charts lately; from last week‘s #163 jumped up for the week of August 1st to #126; not bad, not bad. Next week though we’re off for some scuba diving at Ko Chang, so we’ll probably miss some engagement. But hey, we’ll enjoy it while we’re here!

This week we saw the biggest climbs from Aaron (up 1357 places to 297th), Marissa Sutera (up 1269 places to 156th), and Mar Pages (up 1176 places to 54th).

Well done to this week’s top three Charles McCool (McCool Travel)Stef Travel Photographer, and Matt Matt.

So what shall we check out for this week’s new blog? How about … here at #28 up from #39: @Battle_Mum’s Battle Mum!

#travel #blog BattleMum

Hi there. So you’ve found my blog. Well, I’m thrilled to have you here, welcome.

So you’re probably wondering who the hell is BattleMum. Let me enlighten you. I am Catherine, or Cath for short, whichever you prefer. I am (ehem) 40 and am originally from Dublin. We are an Irish expat family now living in the Algarve in Portugal (we hijacked my parent’s retirement), by way of the United Kingdom, where we lived for 15 years.

Who are we, you ask? We are me, my husband BattleDad and our 4 year old son BattleKid, aka Hurricane Alexander. BattleDad and I have been together 17 years and married for 7. We also have one crazy 6 year old German Shepherd, the BattleDog, who might be 6 but is still 6 months old in his heart…

BattleMum was started as a parenting and lifestyle blog during the last few months of my maternity leave but changed focus last year when I realised I loved writing about our travels more than I did about the parenting side of things. Writing posts about travelling get my juices flowing and my fingers typing, and when you find joy in something you gotta go with it, right…

Well, as you probably know if you’ve been reading around here for a while, this is another example of blogs that overlap not in the slightest with our travel plans, and probably just about exactly that much with our prospective audiences as well.

However, solo or familial, travel is travel, and last paragraph aside we must admit we did get a good chuckle out of this recent post:

A Dragon Hunting Adventure at Raglan Castle

Another South Wales castle that BattleKid had been to before we started our dragon hunting adventures, this castle was located less than 30 minutes from our house. And yet, for some reason had eluded us until just before we left the UK for our new life in Portugal. Well, we had to rectify that. And so, a dragon hunting adventure at Raglan Castle was planned, and BattleKid and I finally did it one February afternoon…

p dir=”ltr”>Heh. Well, if you are going to travel with kids, that sounds like a fun way to go about it. We could see ourselves having a good time on a dragon hunt in a Welsh castle, actually.

Technically, BuiltWith tells us it’s a standard WordPress + Jetpack setup, and as always we recommend Dreampress as your best choice for that, free Jetpack Professional and all; and again like last week, doesn’t seem to be any monetization plugins, just a wider than usual range of social plugins.

So yep, if you’re looking for some travel with kids stories, this looks like an excellent blog of that type … head on over and check it out, because you’ll find a lot more there than here!
