Quark Polar Webinars

Here’s some interesting looking webinars being put on the next few weeks by Quark Expeditions, one of the foremost companies doing adventures to the Arctic and Antarctic:

What Makes a Polar Expedition Unforgettable?

Quark Polar Webinars

Join Quark Expeditions on a journey through Greenland, the Northwest Passage and the Antarctic and learn what traveling to the Polar Regions is really like. For 5-weeks, our polar travel experts will take you on an adventure where you’ll learn about both polar regions—the Arctic & Antarctic—and their many destinations.

Each week is focused on a different destination, with insights on why each is unique, as well as the best times to travel to these incredible regions.

  • 03 Aug. – Greenland: Majestic Landscapes, Culture and Communities
  • 10 Aug. – Northwest Passage: Follow in the Footsteps of Legendary Explorers
  • 24 Aug. – An Explorer’s Guide to the Antarctic
  • 31 Aug. – The Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) & South Georgia
  • 07 Sep. – The Antarctic Peninsula

Simply sign up here and you can watch them live or download them later.

Now, in the extremely unlikely event we ever reach the point where we have enough money to spare the price of a house for a week’s trip, the ultimate polar adventure would have to be White Desert’s Emperors & South Pole Adventure:

This 8-day trip combines the magnificent Emperor Penguins with a flight to the lowest point on Earth – the Geographic South Pole … Even now, reaching the lowest point on earth is a feat that very few people have achieved. During the 7 hour flight, we land on the polar plateau to refuel and you will have a chance to walk around this vast, foreboding wilderness getting a real taste for the immense scale of Antarctica. Back on board, we continue to the South Pole, landing at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole station. At the designated marker, you will be at the lowest point on earth. A place with no more East, South or West – only North and you will be able to walk around the world in just a few paces!

And we use the word ultimate advisedly … since once you get to the South Pole, there’s no more south! You’re done!

However, those of us restricted by financial practicality are not going to be taking that trip, we’re going to be on boat trips like Quark puts on — so if the idea of going to the really really remote regions of the planet excites you, check those webinars out!
