It’s another week of seesawing on the #travel1k charts, yep : last week we were riding high (well, high-ish) at #53, and for the week of February 20th … well shucks, slipped down to #105. Bah! Well, keep on reading and tweeting, and we’ll head back up no doubt!
Hi! I am Pam Rossi, the founder of Always5Star.
A little about me:
For over 33 years, I devoted myself 24/7 to raising six adopted children. Imagine tons of laundry, miles, and miles a week in 9 passenger Chevrolet Suburban. I became an expert at chauffeuring each to their chosen passion. I went through 3 ovens baking cupcakes each week for fundraisers. I volunteered for the PTA (serving as a PTA president for several years), was a girl scout leader, boy scout leader (both of my boys are Eagle Scout), was a member of booster clubs, a soccer coach, a basketball coach, band mom, room Mom each year (I could go on and on… well you get the picture). After doing all this, I would then rush home to kick off the sneakers and step into the heels and little black dress to entertain my husband’s work contacts. Did I need to find a way to escape and rejuvenate so I could tackle these hurdles? Absolutely!
Bringing six children from different homes and diverse circumstances into our lives, brought many challenges. The temperature in the house could be hot, and I’m not talking about heat measured by a thermostat. I discovered that when we traveled together as a family, something magical happened. Personalities softened, connections were fostered, and bonds were formed that re-energized all of us…
Six children? My, that is certainly a bold challenge, isn’t it now? Although we see at the bottom here, it worked out from at least one perspective:
Brittany James – Always5Star Jr.
Social Media Manager – Contibuting Writer specializing in young families and luxury on a budget
Hey everyone! I’m Brittany James, also known as Always5Star Jr…I am the oldest of 6 kids, (yes my parents we’re a bit crazy for having that many kids ) which was fun because that meant I was the boss! Lol!
Indeed. And we see that this is actually a three generation blog, with the top of the page being Brittany and her daughter enjoying the ballet, but let’s skip to this attention-grabbing title:
After years of traveling, I wanted to know the secrets that others had for getting upgrades at a luxury hotel without paying top dollar. We all enjoy receiving an upgraded room upon check-in at a luxury hotel. Read on, because below will be 5StarTips for how to increase your chances of a suite upgrade! These secret tips will help you gain that “suite” hotel luxury room upgrade!
(2) A Credit Card with the Hotel Chain
There are several hotel credit cards that offer great benefits for their cardholders. One of the benefits can be a high status for just becoming a cardholder. For example, I have a Ritz-Carlton Chase credit card that gives me Platinum Elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy rewards program…
Wait, what? Her credit card gets her Platinum Elite? We have an SPG AmEx that gave us Gold Elite after the Marriott merge, but Platinum Elite, well that’s where you actually start getting useful goodies. Time to upgrade, apparently!
As for the rest, head on over and check them out; nothing too surprising we imagine, but the suggestion to check hotel inventory so you know specifically what to ask for, that’s a good tip!
For another … ah, since it’s Valentine’s Month and all, let’s take a look at this article and see if there’s any good suggestions for a good place to take our lady some romantic ocassion:
Oh, will you look at this? As it happens, we have, in fact, been here already with said lady:
2. Chiang Mai, Thailand
Seeing the lantern lighting festival in Chiang Mai was on my romantic bucket list for a while. What better experience can there be to travel to the luxury Four Seasons Chiang Mai resort to enjoy the Yi Peng and Loy Krathong Festival? I knew from past stays at the Four Seasons, that their concierge team would create an ultimate, romantic stay…
Well, we certainly weren’t at the Four Seasons … but yes, can confirm that Loy Krathong is a romantic evening even if you’re staying at a decidedly non-5-star resort!
Wait, and that isn’t the only one? Turns out we’ve also taken our lucky lady to this entry:
6. Cairns, Great Barrier Reef, Australia
When I was designing our vacation to the Great Barrier Reef, I knew that this trip would check off another of John’s bucket list items. He was looking forward to snorkeling and experiencing the Great Barrier Reef. I, of course, wanted to infuse some romance in this moment as well. After lots of research, I created a vacation in Cairns including a helicopter ride to a private island in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef…
Well, we were on a diving liveaboard sailboat — the Rum Runner, to be precise — and not completely sure that scuba diving really qualifies as “romantic” exactly, but hey, it’s on the list, we’ll take it!
#1, interestingly is Africa — so we’ll have to take her on a safari there next! Sometime, anyways…
Technically, BuiltWith tells us it’s a standard WordPress setup, and as always we recommend Dreampress as your best choice for that, free Jetpack Professional and all; and virtually no plugins at all! No advertising, no affiliates, no SEO … just a couple social media helpers and a contact form.
If you are looking to live the high style life, this looks like just the blog for you! Us, well when we stumble into luxury it’s generally because we don’t have any other attractive alternative to get to the place we’re heading …
p dir=”ltr”>… but it’s always interesting to keep an eye on the kinds of things that blogs like this cover, so we can sound cultured if the opportunity arises!
