Now here is a particularly wholehearted recommendation for you: When you’re visiting Tam Cốc as part of your visit to the Trang An WHS, the hotel you should stay at is
I ask you, have you ever stayed at a hotel that has a natural karst bouldering wall directly outside your door?
Nope, neither had we until now!
Situated in Tam Coc – Bich Dong Caves, Vietnamese Ancient Village is the perfect place to experience Ninh Binh and its surroundings. Situated only 8km from the city center, guests are well located to enjoy the town’s attractions and activities. For sightseeing options and local attractions, one need not look far as the hotel enjoys close proximity to Tam Coc Cave, Bich Dong Cave, Tam Coc.
How this place came to be is that they’ve transported actual — if not necessary “ancient” exactly — traditional Vietnamese houses from around the country and tucked them in at the base of the karst peaks beside Tam Coc, and are restoring them piecemeal.
So if you’re expecting luxurious accomodation with hand and foot waitservice, no this isn’t the right place; but if the idea of staying in a living openair museum at the base of WHS karst climbing walls excites you, and it should, then this most certainly is the right place!
Mind you, you may have a little difficulty finding the place, especially after dark — our driver insisted this couldn’t possibly be the right place like Siri claimed, because well it doesn’t really look like a normal hotel entrance does it?
But yes if you look closely at the sign, that is, indeed, the place. Although coming in at night like that has a certain air of mystical grandeur, we do recommend you come in during the day to get the full effect of the setting as you walk down the village street to your cottage:
This was our particular cottage right down at the end by the karst climbing wall you see at the end of the street — that’s a pretty big climbing wall! — at night with the welcoming lamps on:
And here’s a detail of the carvings above our door. Took a look around and all of the cottages are like that — like we said above, it’s like staying in a museum, seriously.
One of these days when we get around to it we’ll put up a video tour of the property for you to see more; but for now, we’ll just leave it at that with a solid recommendation to go see it for yourself!
