Repo: iso3166-flags-maps-worldheritage

Trying to find some art and info for our next Country File here, it struck us that y’know, there’s pieces here and pieces there, but somebody really should pull all of it together into some handy formats for our blogging and apps and whatever…

… and since nobody else appears inclined to, well fine we’ll go ahead with that then, shall we? If you have any use for it, or would like to contribute, you’ll find that repository created on Github now at

alexcurylo/iso3166-flags-maps-worldheritage

For starters, it’ll contain

iso3166/

List of all 249 “countries, territories, or areas of geographical interest” that have an ISO-3166-1 code assigned, with associated data points such as the date of their UNESCO membership, for those 206 that are UNESCO members

flags/

Flag art in SVG and PNG formats for countries, UNESCO itself, and anything else that might be useful

maps/

SVG maps, shapefiles, GeoJSON, KML, whatever handy resources show up

worldheritage/

The current list of inscribed World Heritage Sites, and the current Tentative Lists from all countries providing one

We’ll be adding more data, scripts, code, and whatnot to be pulled together in a handier fashion than the manual grubbing we’ve been doing so far, but that much will take us a little while no doubt.

In the meantime, if you’d like that data everyone will be welcome to it, everything will be under a MIT or Sharealike or similar license…

… and if you have any collected data that you’d think would be a handy addition, pull requests are welcome!
